In December 1968, IIT Madras conducted a three-week course in ‘High-Vacuum Technology’ with assistance from the Technical Physics Division of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay. At the end of the course, on 21st December, 1968, a valedictory function was held during which certificates were distributed and speeches were given. The valedictory address was given by Dr. H. N. Sethna, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay. Seen on the dais from left: Mr. S. Rajaraman (Director, Technical Education, Trivandrum, Kerala), Mr. C. Ambasankaran (Head of the Technical Physics Division, BARC Trombay) and Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director, IIT Madras). Incidentally, Mr. Ambasankaran and Mr. Gourishankar (the photographer of this event) were brothers.
