The stone slab in the photograph has the following words engraved, “Opened by Rashtrapati Giani Zail Singh September 18, 1983”. The inauguration was a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of IIT Madras. The Silver Jubilee year marked 25 years since the establishment of the Institute.
