This photograph was taken on the occasion of the inauguration of Alakananda Hostel. The hostel was declared open by Sardarni Sant Sev Ujjal Singh, wife of the Governor, by cutting a ribbon.

The visitors’ book has the signatures of eminent persons who visited IIT Madras between 1963 and 1991. The signatures of both the Governor and his wife are to be found in the book.

Also in the photograph are Prof. R. K. Gupta (Department of Humanities, left) and Workshop Superintendent Mr. S. S. Mani (in dark suit), who served as the first Warden of the new hostel.
