24th November 1967 marked an important milestone in the academic life of IIT Madras as it was the day the Institute launched the first number/issue of its Research Journal devoted to Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian (Minister of Education, Madras) was the chief guest at the event held to launch the Journal. The Journal was launched with an editorial board of eminent mathematicians and scientists in India and abroad. The objective behind the Journal was to establish and maintain a publication medium in India for research papers of the highest quality. In the image from left: Prof. B. Sengupto, Mr. V. R.
