This lamp was lit to inaugurate the 20th Convocation in 1983 by the dignitaries including chief guest President of India Mr. Giani Zail Singh, Union Minister for Education and Culture Mrs. Sheila Kaul and Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras Mr. A. Sivasailam.
