Alakananda Hostel was inaugurated by Sardarni Sant Sev Ujjal Singh by the cutting of a ribbon. Governor Sardar Ujjal Singh was the chief guest at the event. There was also tree planting by Prof. B. Sengupto (Director), Mrs. Shanti Sengupto and Sardarni Sant Sev Ujjal Singh to mark the inauguration of Alakananda Hostel, followed by a speech by Director B. Sengupto. The April 1966 issue of Campastimes informs us that there was tea next, after which the Governor gave a speech and students were introduced to him, possibly by the Warden Mr. S. S. Mani. The Warden, Mr. S. S. Mani gave a speech at the end of the programme. Prof. B. Sengupto (Director) can also be seen in the photograph, between the gubernatorial couple.
