This photograph was taken on the occasion of the inauguration of Alakananda Hostel in 1966. Mrs. Singh, who declared the hostel open, was the wife of Sardar Ujjal Singh, Governor of Madras. Mrs. Singh was accompanied by her husband on the occasion.

The photograph shows the ladies on a tour of the new hostel.
