24th November 1967 marked an important milestone in the academic life of IIT Madras as it was the day the Institute launched the first number/issue of its research journal devoted to mathematics and physical sciences. Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian (Minister of Education, Madras) was the chief guest at the event held to launch the Journal. The Journal was launched with an Editorial Board, composed of eminent mathematicians and scientists in India and abroad. The objective behind the journal was to establish and maintain a publication in India for research papers of the highest quality. Seen in the image from left: Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director), Mr. C. V. Sethunathan (Registrar), Prof. B. Sengupto and Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian discussing a 3D model of the IIT Campus (probably). The model appears in a number of photos in the Heritage Centre’s collection and it seems to have been on display at the foyer of the Building Sciences Block in the 1960s.
