The academic procession is a tradition where dignitaries wear convocation robes and enter the convocation hall before the event proceeds. Seen in the photograph are (wearing convocation robes, from left), Minister of Health Dr. H. V. Hande, Union Minister for Education and Culture Mrs. Sheila Kaul, Director of IIT Madras Prof. P. V. Indiresan, Chairman of the Board of Governors Mr. A. Sivasailam and chief guest and President of India Mr. Giani Zail Singh. The other personalities in the photograph are yet to be identified.
